The United Arab Emirates has achieved a major milestone in the 2026 Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) Nuclear Security Index, securing the fourth spot globally out of 48 nations for its exceptional protection of nuclear facilities against sabotage. This recognition underscores the country's dedicated efforts to fortify its peaceful nuclear energy sector through a rigorous and evolving security framework. Beyond facility protection, the UAE also performed strongly in preventing the theft of nuclear materials, climbing to a score of 85 out of 100 and ranking 15th among 154 assessed regions.

This significant progress is largely attributed to substantial improvements in the UAE’s security and control measures, which saw a major leap in its rating compared to the 2023 baseline. By tightening cybersecurity protocols, enhancing personnel vetting, and fostering a culture of constant readiness, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has successfully modernized its regulatory oversight. Recognized by the NTI as a leading force in global nuclear security, the UAE remains committed to international cooperation and transparency, ensuring its infrastructure remains resilient against emerging global threats.
