Indian Expat Wins Over Dh650,000 Compensation Following Devastating Road Accident
A 38-year-old Indian expat and father of two, Sudheer, has been awarded Dh655,341 in compensation after a traumatic road accident in Ajman left him with a permanent disability. A long-time UAE resident and lift technician, Sudheer was commuting to a work site in a company vehicle in May 2025 when the driver lost control, resulting in a collision with a pedestrian bridge and a utility pole. The crash caused catastrophic injuries to his left leg, which medical teams at NMC Royal Hospital were unable to save, eventually forcing an amputation below the knee.
The legal journey to secure justice was extensive, led by Advocate Shamsudeen Karunagappally, who initially sought Dh1 million to account for Sudheerâs loss of livelihood, physical trauma, and the long-term impact on his family. After an initial award of Dh400,000, the legal team successfully appealed for a higher sum, eventually securing the current payout of Dh655,341, inclusive of court costs. Despite this settlement, the fight is not over; Sudheerâs legal representatives have escalated the case to the Dubai Court of Cassation, arguing that the current compensation is still inadequate given his ongoing medical needs and complications involving his right leg.
