The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team has reached a historic milestone at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, marking their most successful campaign to date. With a dominant performance on Friday, the squad secured two additional gold medals and one bronze, bringing their current tournament total to an impressive eight medals. This latest achievement pushes their gold medal count to seven, comfortably surpassing the previous record of five golds set during the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Individual brilliance was on full display as Mahdi Al Awlaqi climbed to the top of the podium, clinching the gold in the menâs 77kg category after a hard-fought victory against Jordanâs Mahmoud Jabr. Meanwhile, Asma Al Hosani continued her spectacular run in the sport by successfully defending her title in the womenâs 52kg division against South Koreaâs Eonju Im. Having previously made history as the first Emirati woman to secure a martial arts gold at the Asian Games, Al Hosaniâs repeat victory further cements her legacy. Adding to the day's success, Amaar Al Hosani rounded out the podium efforts by claiming a well-deserved bronze in the menâs 94kg weight class.
