New Leadership Appointed for Al Wasl Sports Club
In a significant transition for Dubai’s sporting landscape, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has named Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as the new Chairman of Al Wasl Sports Club. This appointment comes following the passing of the club’s long-standing leader, the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who passed away in September 2026 at the age of 76. To support the new chairman, Sheikh Butti bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum has been appointed as the club's vice-chairman, signaling a new chapter for the organization.
The late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was a towering figure who left an indelible mark on Dubai, having served for decades as the president of Al Wasl and holding key roles in the emirate's security and business sectors.
