A Brave Brother’s Gift: Life-Saving Transplant Performed in Abu Dhabi
In a remarkable medical success story, a six-year-old boy has saved his nine-year-old sister, Razan, by donating his bone marrow in a rare, partially matched procedure at Yas Clinic in Abu Dhabi. Razan had been battling severe aplastic anaemia, a life-threatening condition that caused her bone marrow to fail and left her immune system dangerously compromised. When a search through international registries and family members failed to produce a perfect donor match, doctors turned to her younger brother. His willingness to donate provided a critical lifeline that traditional options could not, ultimately offering his sister a chance at recovery.
Following the procedure, which was conducted in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC), Razan showed incredible resilience, with her bone marrow and immune system beginning to function properly within just one month. Now back home and recovering under the guidance of a dedicated medical team, her story serves as a testament to the UAE’s growing prowess in complex cellular therapies and regenerative medicine. Experts involved in her care praised the young donor's heroism and highlighted that this achievement underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to providing world-class, innovative healthcare for patients facing even the most challenging diagnoses.
