UAE’s MBR Explorer Hits Flight Readiness Milestone
The United Arab Emirates has reached a major milestone in its space exploration journey, with Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announcing that the MBR Explorer is now flight-ready. Developed, assembled, and tested entirely within the UAE, this impressive feat was achieved in under two years. The ambitious mission, which involves over 150 Emirati scientists and engineers, is set to embark on a 5-billion-kilometre voyage in 2028. Utilizing gravity-assist maneuvers around Earth, Venus, and Mars, the probe will explore seven distinct asteroids, culminating in a historic landing on the asteroid Justitia to gather surface data.
Beyond the scientific objectives of uncovering the origins of the solar system, this mission serves as a catalyst for the UAE’s rapidly expanding space economy, which is already valued at over Dh44 billion. The initiative is strategically designed to bolster the domestic private sector, with half of the project’s development allocated to local companies and startups. By fostering academic partnerships and advanced technological ecosystems, the UAE aims to solidify its position among the top ten global space economies by 2031, proving that the nation is firmly committed to long-term investment in human capital and space innovation.
