A Heartfelt Innovation: Dubai Student Launches App to Aid Alzheimer’s Patients
When Ghaliya Wahby, a Grade 12 student at the American School of Dubai, watched her grandfather struggle to identify the family members he once held dear, she felt compelled to turn that painful experience into a solution. Her response was the creation of "Alzimate," a user-friendly app designed to help those living with Alzheimer’s reconnect with their loved ones. By providing a digital space to store cherished photos, voice recordings, music, and key memories, the app acts as a bridge, helping patients bridge the gap between their fading memories and the faces of their family members.
Since its recent launch, the app has already seen over 400 downloads and serves as a vital tool for both patients and caregivers. Beyond just storing memories, the app helps manage practical needs like medication tracking, allowing families to spend less time on the stressors of the disease and more time enjoying meaningful interactions. Driven by the hope that no one should feel like a stranger in a room full of loved ones, Ghaliya remains committed to keeping the platform free of charge, with a long-term goal of supporting families globally as they navigate the complexities of dementia.
