Abu Dhabi Police Release Shocking Footage of Highway Reversing Crashes

Sat, Oct 10, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Abu Dhabi authorities are urging motorists to prioritize road safety after releasing alarming dashcam footage showing vehicles reversing on high-speed highways. The videos highlight several dangerous incidents where drivers, having missed their intended exits, attempted to back up directly in the flow of traffic. One particularly harrowing clip shows a truck violently overturning after colliding with a reversing vehicle, while other sequences capture near-misses and collisions that put countless commuters at risk. Police emphasize that if you miss an exit, the only responsible action is to continue to the next one, rather than attempting a high-stakes maneuver that confuses surrounding drivers.

Beyond the immediate danger of injury, these reckless actions carry significant legal consequences for offenders. Beyond a standard Dh500 fine and four traffic points for illegal reversing, drivers can face much harsher penalties if their actions are deemed to endanger the lives of others. This includes a heavy Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic points, and a 60-day impoundment of their vehicle. By sharing these incidents, the Monitoring and Control Centre and Abu Dhabi Police hope to remind the public that a few extra minutes of driving is always preferable to a life-threatening mistake on the road.
