Dubai Pilots Innovative Driverless Pods for Urban Transit
Dubai has officially kicked off a four-week pilot program at Bluewaters, introducing a fleet of autonomous electric pods powered by artificial intelligence. Operating on specialized tracks, this innovative transit system—known as Glydways—is designed to offer a personalized, on-demand travel experience that takes passengers directly from their starting point to their destination. By streamlining these short-distance trips, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) hopes to significantly enhance first- and last-mile connectivity throughout the city.
The launch ceremony featured Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, who personally tested the technology with a brief ride along the designated route. This trial represents a major step forward in Dubai’s ongoing commitment to integrating smart, sustainable, and automated mobility solutions into its public transportation infrastructure. As the testing phase progresses, officials will evaluate the system's performance to determine its potential for broader implementation across the emirate.
