Al Ain International Airport Renamed to Tahnoun International in Honor of Late Leader
Al Ain International Airport has officially been renamed Tahnoun International Airport to commemorate the enduring legacy of the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. The decision, directed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, serves as a tribute to the leader’s decades of dedicated service to the nation. Effective October 11, this renaming honors a man who held several pivotal roles throughout his life, including Chairman of ADNOC and Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and recognizes his profound contributions to the development of the Al Ain region.
Sheikh Tahnoun was a trusted confidant of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and played an instrumental role in the country’s early establishment. Known for his deep connection to the local community and his commitment to the people of Al Ain, he was widely regarded as a pillar of stability and guidance. By renaming the facility, the UAE leadership continues to emphasize its reverence for the founding generation and the core values that helped shape the nation’s history.
