Al Yarmouk Undergoes Massive Infrastructure Overhaul
Residents and business owners in Sharjah’s Al Yarmouk district are breathing a sigh of relief following the completion of an extensive eight-month redevelopment project. Once plagued by unpaved, sandy roads and a severe lack of parking, the neighborhood has been completely transformed under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The project has introduced 53 new internal roads and a robust 15km drainage and sewage network, ensuring that the area is not only easier to navigate but also better protected against weather-related damage.
The most notable improvement for locals is the massive expansion of parking capacity, which has jumped by 3,200 spots to a new total of 4,200, including the emirate's first dedicated motorcycle parking bays. Alongside these road upgrades, the addition of 41 pedestrian walkways has made the district significantly more walkable. This renewal initiative is part of a broader commitment by the Sharjah Municipality to modernize older residential areas, with similar projects already completed in Al Ghuwair and upcoming developments planned for Al Qadisiyya and Al Jazat.
