Saudi Arabia Faces Critical Decision on Houthi Strategy
A senior Emirati official, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, recently underscored that while the UAE views the security of Saudi Arabia as inseparable from its own, the Kingdom retains full autonomy in determining its response to escalating Houthi aggression. Speaking at the UAE Correspondents' Majlis, Dr. Al Nuaimi clarified that it is up to Riyadh to decide how to confront these threats and whether it requires external military assistance. He emphasized that the UAE respects Saudi Arabiaâs sovereign right to handle these security challenges independently, even as the region grapples with a rise in attacks on civilian infrastructure and energy facilities.
Reflecting on the UAEâs own experiences, Dr. Al Nuaimi noted that when the Emirates faced Houthi aggression in early 2022, the nation responded decisively and independently. He also touched upon the historical context of the UAEâs military involvement in Yemen, noting that the country had previously played an active role in coalition operations before transitioning toward a full withdrawal of its forces by early 2026. This shift underscores the UAE's current stance of supporting its ally while maintaining a focus on strategic decision-making that respects the specific security needs of the Kingdom.
