Dubai Police Dismantle Fake Driving Licence Ring
Dubai Police have successfully apprehended an eight-member criminal syndicate accused of operating a sophisticated fraud scheme involving foreign driving licences. By exploiting international agreements that allow eligible expatriates to exchange foreign licences for a UAE permit without further testing, the group charged customers Dh10,000 to bypass the mandatory legal process. Working in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), authorities uncovered that the gang used local transaction offices to recruit clients, promising them licences from neighboring countries without requiring them to ever travel, train, or pass a driving examination.
Law enforcement officials have issued a stern warning that participants in this scheme face severe criminal liability, as fraudulent document exchange does not grant immunity from the law. Beyond the legal consequences, the police emphasized the significant safety risks posed by this operation. Driving lessons and standardized tests are vital safeguards designed to ensure that every motorist on the road possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate traffic safely. By bypassing these requirements, unqualified individuals were being put behind the wheel, creating a dangerous hazard for pedestrians and other drivers alike. Residents are urged to avoid any offers that promise shortcuts to obtaining a driving licence and to follow only the official, legal channels.
