Abu Dhabi Police Crack Down on Unsafe E-Scooter Use

Sun, Oct 18, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Between January and October 2026, Abu Dhabi authorities confiscated 9,237 electric scooters for failing to comply with local traffic laws. The enforcement campaign was launched to address a surge in dangerous riding behaviors, specifically targeting individuals who operate these devices on high-speed public roads, weave between motor vehicles, or utilize pathways that are strictly off-limits to e-scooters.

Police officials highlighted that these reckless habits significantly escalate the risk of severe road accidents, posing a lethal threat to both the riders and surrounding motorists. To improve public safety, authorities are mandating that all e-scooter users strictly stick to approved lanes, prioritize the use of helmets, and wear appropriate protective gear at all times. They warned that failure to follow these essential safety protocols not only invites heavy fines but also leads to the immediate seizure of the vehicle.
