Dubai’s New Sensory Ambulances Offer Calm Support for People of Determination
Dubai has introduced a dedicated sensory ambulance service designed to make medical transport a more comfortable experience for people of determination, including those with autism. Unveiled at the AccessAbilities Expo, these specialized vehicles are equipped with adjustable lighting, tactile wall features, and calming tools that allow paramedics to tailor the environment to the specific needs of each patient. Beyond the vehicle's features, the staff operating these ambulances have received specialized training to ensure they can provide empathetic and effective care, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to patient transport.
Families can easily request this service for non-emergency hospital visits through the "Patient Transfer" option on the DubaiNow app. When booking, users simply select the sensory ambulance, provide details about the patient’s diagnosis, and set the travel locations and timing. A member of the ambulance team will then reach out to confirm the arrangements. It is important to note that this service is intended for planned transfers; for any medical emergencies, the public is strongly urged to call 998 immediately, as these specialized units are not designed for crisis response.
