Dubai’s Initiative to Foster Empathy for People of Determination
The eighth Access Abilities Expo, currently underway at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is offering visitors a profound opportunity to step into the shoes of people of determination. Rather than relying on traditional brochures or passive awareness campaigns, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has introduced three interactive initiatives designed to bridge the gap in understanding through firsthand experience. From an immersive dome that simulates the sensory world of those on the autism spectrum to stations where visitors can learn basic sign language or explore Braille, these exhibits aim to cultivate genuine empathy and promote a more inclusive society.
Beyond these experiential displays, the DHA is leveraging the expo to highlight its broader commitment to structural accessibility within the healthcare sector. The authority is rolling out comprehensive health standards for medical facilities, the "Sandahum" initiative to monitor facility compliance through rigorous inspections, and a new unified medical report system designed to streamline care. By combining these practical policy updates with sensory-based education, Dubai is taking a significant step toward ensuring that the environment for people of determination is not only more inclusive but also better supported by standardized, high-quality medical services.
