UN Security Council Issues Strong Condemnation of Drone Attack on UAE Nuclear Facility
The United Nations Security Council has issued a stern condemnation following a drone strike that targeted an electricity generator near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE’s Al Dhafra region. Officials described the incident as a blatant violation of international law, emphasizing that such aggression poses a severe threat to civilian safety, critical infrastructure, and the environment. In a formal statement, the Council demanded an immediate and permanent halt to all hostilities against civilian sites, particularly those involving peaceful nuclear facilities.
Aligning with the concerns raised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Council reinforced the necessity of maintaining rigorous safety and security standards at all times. They noted that military actions targeting nuclear sites are entirely unacceptable and urged all nations to uphold their obligations regarding nuclear safety. Furthermore, the Security Council reaffirmed its unwavering support for the UAE’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that the Barakah plant continues to operate in full compliance with global safety protocols and under strict regulatory oversight.
