Sharjah to Build Underground Tunnel at Cultural Square
Sharjah is currently developing an underground pedestrian tunnel at the iconic Cultural Square, designed to offer a secure passage between the Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal Mosque and the surrounding landmarks. Announced by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, the project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and preserve the aesthetic beauty of the square’s landscaping by separating foot traffic from busy roads. Sheikh Sultan highlighted the significance of the nearby Holy Quran monument, suggesting that the area could eventually be referred to as "Quran Square" or "Book Square" to reflect its cultural importance.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the emirate is making significant strides in its ambitious Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopaedia project. Set to reach 130 volumes by the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair, this massive undertaking involves over 1,300 researchers dedicated to documenting vast fields of science, arts, and literature. Beyond publishing, Sharjah continues to foster intellectual growth through the "Teaches and Learns" initiative, which features informational columns in the city’s gardens. These displays honor prominent thinkers and provide an accessible way for younger generations to engage with their heritage, reinforcing the Ruler’s belief that true knowledge is built through intellectual dedication rather than material wealth.
