Sharjah Proposes New Legislation for Lost and Unclaimed Property
The Sharjah Consultative Council is currently reviewing a proposed law designed to streamline the management of lost and abandoned property. During a recent meeting chaired by Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi, the Committee for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Municipalities began a detailed analysis of the bill. The primary goal is to create a robust regulatory framework that ensures these items are handled securely and transparently while strictly protecting the ownership rights of the public.
This legislative effort aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of various government authorities involved in the process. By refining the procedures for storing, managing, and disposing of unclaimed assets, the council hopes to modernize existing rules to better align with current operational needs and technological advancements. The committee intends to finalize its recommendations after consulting with the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee, ensuring the new law reflects the vision of the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, to safeguard community interests.
