The Legacy of Dubai Police Officer Number 8: A Tribute to Major General Khalifa bin Dhaen Al Mheiri
Major General Khalifa bin Dhaen Al Mheiri, who passed away recently, left behind a legacy that is deeply woven into the history of the Dubai Police force. Joining as just the eighth recruit at the age of 15, Al Mheiri began his career in a simple kandura, armed with little more than a baton. His journey reflects the humble origins of the force itself, which started with fewer than 30 officers at Naif Fort. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, honored his memory by describing him as a loyal and dedicated leader who served his nation and the Al Maktoum family for over five decades.
Beyond his rank and administrative achievements, Al Mheiri was known for his personal bravery and unwavering commitment to public safety. In a notable incident from his early days, he pursued two thieves into an abandoned building after discovering them near a watch shop in Bur Dubai. Despite being unarmed and sustaining a knife wound, he successfully apprehended the suspects using only his baton and a piece of wood. This spirit of service continued throughout his life, as he later pivoted toward education by founding Jumeira University, driven by a desire to preserve his community's cultural identity. Often referred to as "The Father" by those who knew him, his life remains a testament to the growth of Dubai and the individuals who built its foundations.
