Abu Dhabi’s Ambitious Waste Recycling Hub Set to Launch by 2028

Thu, Oct 22, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Tadweer Group, in collaboration with the international environmental firm Urbaser, has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility in Abu Dhabi. Slated to go live by the second quarter of 2028, this massive plant is designed to handle a total of 400,000 tonnes of waste annually, split evenly between municipal solid waste and industrial materials. By leveraging cutting-edge artificial intelligence, automated sorting, and advanced optical systems, the facility aims to drastically improve material recovery rates and ensure that less waste ends up in landfills.

This project is a cornerstone of the broader "EcoPark" initiative, an integrated ecosystem dedicated to sustainable resource management and waste-to-value technologies. The facility plays a critical role in Abu Dhabi’s strategic goal to divert 80 percent of its waste from landfills by 2031. As Tadweer Group continues to modernize the emirate's waste infrastructure—following the recent launch of their AI-driven collection platform, Tajmee'e—this new recovery center represents a significant leap toward fostering a more robust and efficient circular economy in the region.
