Al Ain Court Orders Compensation for Chemical Burn Victims

Sat, Oct 24, 2026(1h ago)UAE

An Al Ain court has ordered a restaurant owner and two staff members to pay Dh50,000 in compensation after two men suffered severe chemical burns outside their place of business. The victims were walking through a rear passageway they used to access their home when they slipped and fell into a caustic drain-cleaning chemical that had been improperly used to wash the floor. The accident resulted in devastating injuries, leaving one victim with third-degree burns and the other with second-degree burns, leading to significant skin disfigurement and long-term physical impairment.

Following their initial criminal conviction, the defendants faced a civil lawsuit where the victims sought Dh300,000 to cover their physical and emotional suffering. While the restaurant owner’s defense team attempted to have the case dismissed, the civil court upheld the findings of the previous criminal trial, noting that the defendants’ liability was already legally established. Ultimately, the court mandated that the owner and his workers pay a collective Dh50,000 in damages, alongside legal costs, acknowledging the lasting impact of the injuries sustained during the preventable incident.
