Sharjah’s Sheikha Bodour Celebrates the Unifying Power of Literature in Warsaw
At the opening of the 2026 Warsaw International Book Fair, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi highlighted the profound ability of literature to act as a bridge between diverse civilizations. As Sharjah takes the stage as the first Arab guest of honor at this prestigious event, Sheikha Bodour emphasized that translated works foster empathy and curiosity, allowing different cultures to engage with one another's hopes and histories. She framed this cross-cultural dialogue under the theme "Two civilisations, one language of letters," noting that while cultures may differ, they share a fundamental need for the patience and openness that reading provides.
The event, hosted at Warsaw’s PGE Narodowy stadium, drew significant praise from Polish officials, including Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Minister of Culture Marta Cienkowska, who underscored the importance of such exchanges in strengthening ties between Poland and the UAE. Sharjah’s involvement is extensive, featuring a vibrant program of panel discussions, poetry readings, and musical performances spread across the city. By championing the written word, Sheikha Bodour continues her dedicated mission to position Sharjah as a global cultural hub, encouraging a fast-paced world to slow down and find common ground through the stories we tell each other.
