UAE Resident Honoured for Meticulous Preservation of Family Heritage
Ghaith AlSiri recently received the prestigious Best Family Heritage Documentation Award at the Erth Dubai Awards, a recognition presented by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His project, which tracks the AlSiri family lineage back to 1828 and encompasses over 300 members, began as a simple request from a cousin but evolved into a passionate pursuit of ancestral preservation. Motivated by a desire to ensure his own daughters understood their roots and family connections, AlSiri dedicated months to the project, even teaching himself how to translate complex software source code into Arabic to create a functional, accessible platform for his relatives.
Beyond the technical achievement, AlSiri describes the process as a transformative experience that deepened his relationships with the older generation of his family. By documenting their history, including the family's long-standing connection to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyanâs historic farm, he successfully bridged generational gaps and fostered a stronger sense of communal identity. As the project continues to grow with new family additions, AlSiri hopes his dedication serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding one's legacy, echoing the sentiment that those who fail to record their past risk being lost to time.
