Tragedy at Sea: Three Indian Sailors Confirmed Dead Following Oman Coast Tanker Strike

Thu, Jun 11, 2026(45d ago)World

The maritime community is mourning the loss of three Indian sailors who were tragically killed after the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello was struck off the coast of Oman. The vessel, which carried a total crew of 24, was reportedly hit in a suspected US missile strike, leaving the seafarers missing in the immediate aftermath. Authorities have since confirmed that while two bodies have been recovered, the third individual is also deceased.

Sarbananda Sonowal, India's Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, expressed his profound sorrow over the incident, labeling it a devastating loss for the country’s maritime workforce. He confirmed that the government is actively coordinating the repatriation of the surviving crew members and ensuring the mortal remains of the deceased are returned home for final rites. The Minister emphasized that the Modi government remains in close contact with the grieving families, providing full support during this harrowing period.
