Qatari Minister Expresses Condolences Following Fatal Ras Laffan Gas Facility Explosion
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, visited the Indian and Pakistani embassies in Doha this Wednesday to extend his deepest sympathies. This gesture followed a devastating explosion at the Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan on June 21, 2026, which claimed 13 lives and stands as one of the region's most severe industrial accidents in recent memory. Among those lost were 12 Indian nationals and one Pakistani citizen, while 66 others sustained injuries, thankfully none of which were life-threatening.
During his visits with Indian Ambassador Shri Vipul and Pakistani Ambassador Muhammad Aamer, Al-Kaabi reiterated the commitment of QatarEnergy to support all those affected by the tragedy. The Minister also personally visited the injured at several local hospitals, including Hamad and Al-Wakrah, to check on their recovery. While Qatari authorities are continuing their investigation into the blast, officials have emphasized that the event was a technical accident rather than an act of sabotage, reassuring the public that the explosion, which occurred during a restart of operations, was not linked to any external hostile activity.
