Tue, Jun 30, 2026(3h ago)World

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo, who currently plays for the Venezuelan second-division side Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira, has lost his wife and two young children in the aftermath of two massive earthquakes. The devastating tremors, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck the region on Wednesday evening while Trejo was away at a training camp in Caracas. Upon hearing the news, the 38-year-old athlete rushed back to his home in La Guaira, only to find the building completely destroyed.

Following three agonizing days of searching through the wreckage alongside rescue teams, the bodies of his wife, Yanina, and their children, Aaron and Ainhoa, were recovered from the debris. Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira confirmed the devastating loss in a heartfelt Instagram tribute, standing by their player during this unimaginable time. As Venezuela grapples with a national crisis that has claimed nearly 1,500 lives and left tens of thousands missing, the football community has joined together in mourning this profound personal tragedy.
