India Launches Digital e-OCI Card: Everything You Need to Know
The Indian government has unveiled a modernized e-OCI card, providing a fully digital alternative to the traditional Overseas Citizen of India booklet introduced back in 2005. This transition marks a significant shift toward convenience, as the entire application and approval process can now be handled online without the need for physical paperwork. Designed to benefit approximately 5 million cardholders, this update simplifies administrative tasksâmost notably, it eliminates the requirement to reissue physical booklets whenever a passport is renewed. Instead, users can simply update their passport details digitally, while benefiting from smoother immigration clearances and reduced concerns over losing or damaging physical travel documents.
To access your digital card, log in to the official OCI Services Portal using your credentials or register with the email linked to your original application. Once you are logged into your dashboard, select the e-OCI tab to view your current application information. From there, click the "Generate e-OCI Card" option in the final column to create your digital document. Once generated, you can download and save the file directly to your smartphone, allowing you to present it easily to airline staff or immigration officials whenever necessary.
