Southern Philippines Hit by 5.8-Magnitude Earthquake
On Monday afternoon, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rattled the southern region of the Philippines. According to data released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the seismic event occurred at approximately 4:11 p.m. local time, originating at a shallow depth of 9 kilometers.
The epicenter was pinpointed roughly 60 kilometers southeast of Balut Island, situated within the municipality of Sarangani in Davao Occidental. Fortunately, authorities have not reported any significant damage or casualties following the tremor. Officials continue to monitor the area for any potential aftershocks as a standard precautionary measure.
