Filipina Nurse Dinah Sevilla Named Finalist for Global Nursing Excellence Award
Dinah Sevilla, a Filipina nurse currently serving at King Saud University Medical City in Saudi Arabia, has earned a spot in the top 10 for the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2026. Selected from a massive pool of over 134,000 applicants across 214 countries, Sevilla was recognized for her groundbreaking work in simplifying home-based care for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. By creating intuitive education models—such as pictorial guides and demonstration videos—she effectively bridged language barriers, ensuring that patients could safely manage complex daily treatments in their own homes.
Her innovative approach has yielded remarkable clinical results, dropping peritonitis infection rates to just 0.07 per cent, significantly lower than the global standard of 0.40 per cent. By eliminating medication errors and preventable complications, Sevilla’s methods have not only boosted patient confidence but also eased the burden on hospital systems by reducing emergency visits and overall healthcare costs. As she competes for the $250,000 grand prize alongside nine other global healthcare professionals, her success stands as a testament to the life-saving impact of nurse-led innovation, with the final winner set to be announced at a gala in India in July 2026.
