Indian Nationals Caught in Maritime Attack Near Oman
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Sunday that 11 Indian citizens were aboard a commercial vessel, the GFS Galaxy, when it came under attack off the coast of Oman. According to official reports, search-and-rescue teams have successfully recovered 10 of the crew members, while one individual remains unaccounted for. The vessel was reportedly left crippled after sustaining significant damage to its engine room, prompting the crew to abandon the ship and seek refuge in a lifeboat.
The incident occurred amidst a dangerous escalation in regional hostilities, with the US Central Command attributing the assault to Iranian forces. This attack coincided with broader geopolitical unrest, as Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and launched a series of drone and missile strikes in response to recent US military actions. Expressing deep concern over the safety of commercial shipping, the Indian government has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities against civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the urgent need to restore safe and unimpeded navigation through these critical international waters.
