NEET-UG 2026 Controversy: NTA Alleges Fake OMR Sheets Amidst Student Backlash

Mon, Jul 20, 2026(17h ago)World

Following the release of the NEET-UG 2026 re-test results on July 16, a fresh wave of frustration has swept through India’s student community. Many test-takers have taken to social media to voice concerns over discrepancies they discovered in their OMR answer sheets. While these students claim their attempts to resolve the issue with the National Testing Agency (NTA) via email have been ignored, the agency has dismissed these allegations, asserting that it is scrutinizing the complaints and warning that many of the shared OMR sheets appear to be manipulated, AI-generated, or entirely fake.

The NTA has taken a firm stance, cautioning that legal consequences could follow for those disseminating fraudulent documentation and urging candidates to rely only on original records. This latest development adds to a long-running scandal that began with a paper leak in the initial May 3 exam, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals, including a prominent chemistry lecturer accused of masterminding the cheating. The ongoing turmoil has triggered widespread protests, the rise of the satirical "Cockroach Janta Party," and high-profile hunger strikes, keeping the pressure mounting on the government to hold officials accountable.
