India's Cockroach Janta Party Leads Protest March Amidst Education Crisis

Tue, Jul 21, 2026(45d ago)World

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical political group born from student frustrations over NEET irregularities and CBSE grading controversies, recently spearheaded a "Chalo Sansad" march toward the Indian Parliament. The movement, which has been gaining momentum since late June, intensified following the hospitalization of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity with the students. Demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, thousands of defiant demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Despite the Delhi Police enforcing strict prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS and denying official permission for the march, the atmosphere remained tense as security forces deployed tear gas and lathi charges to contain the crowds.

While the police maintained that the situation was handled professionally and denied reports of widespread violence, eyewitnesses and media reports highlighted scuffles and multiple detentions across major cities, including Bangalore and Mumbai. Amidst the chaos, a potential path toward resolution emerged as Health Minister J.P. Nadda met with CJP representatives in what he described as a cordial discussion. Despite the government's call to restore normalcy, Sonam Wangchuk has vowed to continue his fast from his hospital bed. He insists that his protest will persist until the government formally addresses the students' grievances in Parliament or meets with him to ensure their concerns are prioritized during the current monsoon session.
