This latest displacement follows a string of similar emergencies across the country, as Spain grapples with a brutal combination of record-breaking heatwaves and persistent drought conditions. Just one day prior, thousands of other individuals living in areas southwest of the capital were also forced to flee their properties due to separate, fast-moving blazes that have left local emergency services stretched to their limits.
