Saudi-Led Coalition Targets Houthi Positions in Hodeidah Amid Rising Tensions

Sat, Jul 25, 2026(2h ago)World

The Saudi-led coalition launched targeted airstrikes against Houthi military installations in Yemen’s Hodeidah governorate this past Friday, asserting that these sites posed a direct threat to international commercial shipping lanes. While Houthi-affiliated media outlets, including Al Masirah TV, claimed that the attacks impacted state telecommunications infrastructure and Kamaran Island, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki was quick to clarify that Hodeidah’s port facilities remain operational. According to the coalition, vital maritime hubs such as Ras Issa and Salif continue to receive commercial vessels, even as officials vowed a firm, uncompromising response to any further Houthi hostility.

The situation has rapidly deteriorated as both sides trade accusations, with the Houthis declaring an era of "escalation for escalation" following the strikes. This recent flare-up includes reports of a minor hull strike on a Saudi tanker in the Red Sea and retaliatory missile activity directed toward the southern Saudi city of Jizan. These developments signal a precarious turn in the long-standing conflict, threatening to undo the relative stability of the 2022 truce and adding a new, volatile layer to the broader geopolitical instability currently gripping the Middle East.
