Delhi Youth Protests Escalate Amidst Calls for Education Minister’s Resignation

Sat, Jul 25, 2026(45d ago)World

Tensions reached a boiling point in the heart of India's capital as police deployed tear gas to disperse crowds of young demonstrators. The youth-led movement, which has emerged as one of the most significant challenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration since 2014, is fueled by widespread anger over systemic corruption, a lack of job opportunities, and failures in the nation’s examination infrastructure. The unrest was specifically ignited by massive paper leaks in critical entrance exams, which forced millions of students to face the stress of retaking tests, sparking a broader demand for government accountability and the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Despite the government's attempts to stifle the movement by shutting down metro stations and extending mobile internet blackouts, thousands of protesters remain undeterred. While government officials have entered into negotiations with movement leaders to prevent further escalation, activists maintain that they will not settle for anything less than a definitive answer regarding the minister’s future. As opposition parties continue to leverage this discontent within parliament, the demonstrators have vowed to sustain their pressure, asserting that no amount of infrastructure lockdowns or police crackdowns will successfully silence their call for fundamental educational reform.
