IDF Restricts Access to West Bank Village of Taybeh Amid Rising Settler Violence

Mon, Aug 10, 2026(1h ago)World

In a move to curb escalating tensions, the Israeli military has declared the West Bank village of Taybeh a closed military zone for non-resident Israelis. Officials stated that this measure is a direct response to a surge in violent attacks against local Palestinians by Israeli settlers. While the order restricts entry for Israeli citizens, it does not apply to Palestinians, and the military has pledged to dispatch soldiers to the area to disperse agitators and maintain order whenever violations are reported.

Taybeh holds significant cultural and religious importance as one of the few remaining Christian villages in the West Bank, often visited by high-ranking church officials. The community, which is also well-known for housing the Middle East’s oldest microbrewery, has increasingly become a target for intimidation. Recent incidents, including settlers interfering with local efforts to extinguish wildfires, have drawn international condemnation. This military closure follows a broader UN inquiry that identified a concerning pattern of settler-led violence, contributing to a volatile security landscape in the region.
