5.0-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Western Iran

Tue, Aug 11, 2026(51m ago)World

On August 10, 2026, the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported a 5.0-magnitude earthquake in western Iran at 7:01 pm local time. This recent activity follows a similar seismic event recorded in southern Iran earlier this June, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. These recurring tremors highlight the ongoing instability in the region, particularly after a series of nine smaller quakes shook the area near Tehran this past May, sparking fears among residents about the potential for a larger, more destructive event.

Iran remains one of the most seismically volatile nations globally, a reality underscored by the tragic memory of the 2003 Bam earthquake that claimed over 30,000 lives. While the NCM confirmed that this latest tremor was not significantly felt within the UAE, the country’s geographical proximity to the Zagros Mountains means that seismic activity in neighboring nations like Iran, Iraq, and Oman can occasionally cause minor shaking in parts of the Emirates. Authorities continue to monitor these regional movements closely as a standard safety precaution.
