Ukraine Claims North Korean Missiles Used in Deadly Strikes

Tue, Aug 11, 2026(51m ago)World

Recent overnight Russian aerial strikes across Ukraine have claimed at least nine lives and left dozens injured, with Kyiv officials alleging that the onslaught included ballistic missiles supplied by North Korea. President Volodymyr Zelensky identified the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia as a primary target, noting that the attack utilized a lethal combination of Pyongyang-supplied missiles, Zircon projectiles, and guided aerial bombs specifically aimed at civilian infrastructure. Additional casualties were reported in the Dnipropetrovsk region, while critical sites in Kyiv, including an infectious diseases hospital and a children’s facility, sustained damage. Fortunately, patients and staff in the children's hospital managed to reach safety in time.

These developments underscore an alarming escalation in the military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang. President Zelensky has recently cautioned that Russia is deepening its reliance on North Korea, warning of the potential deployment of tens of thousands of North Korean troops to bolster Russian forces. As the conflict intensifies, Ukraine is struggling with a critical shortage of advanced air-defense systems like the U.S.-made Patriot, which are essential for intercepting high-speed ballistic missiles. With the United Nations reporting that civilian death tolls have reached their highest levels since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Kyiv is urgently pressing its international partners for more defensive equipment to counter this combined threat.
