A significant power disruption hit regions south of Zawiya after a deliberate attack targeted the city's South Zawiya electrical substation. The General Electricity Company of Libya confirmed that the strike resulted in a total loss of power for residents and businesses in the area. In response to the worsening security climate, the American firm GE has pulled its technical staff from the Zawiya power plant and suspended all ongoing maintenance and upgrade projects until safety can be guaranteed. This withdrawal is a major blow to the facility, leaving over 700 megawatts of its 1,300-megawatt capacity completely offline.

The situation remains increasingly volatile, as this attack on energy infrastructure follows recent drone strikes that targeted fuel storage tanks at the nearby Zawiya oil complex, home to the nation’s largest refinery. The persistent violence in this strategic region has sparked fears of a broader collapse in the energy sector. The National Oil Corporation has warned that if these strikes against essential assets continue, they may be forced to declare force majeure, further threatening the stability of Libya's oil production and national power grid.
