Bahrain Sentences Five Individuals Over Iran-Linked Espionage and Online Activities

Wed, Aug 12, 2026(1h ago)World

Bahraini authorities have handed down life sentences to two individuals convicted of spying for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the Public Prosecution, the pair was found guilty of providing sensitive coordinates and location data to foreign entities to facilitate hostile actions against the Kingdom. The investigation, triggered by suspicious social media activity, led to the apprehension of the primary administrator, who confessed to coordinating with fugitives abroad. Digital forensic analysis of confiscated devices later corroborated these claims, confirming the defendants’ involvement in compromising national security.

In a separate legal action, three additional individuals were sentenced to prison terms reaching up to ten years for promoting Iranian-backed attacks via online platforms. These defendants were found to have disseminated prohibited data, shared content endorsing regional aggression, and photographed sensitive locations under restricted status. Beyond the lengthy jail terms, the court imposed significant fines and ordered the seizure of all electronic equipment used in the commission of these crimes. The Public Prosecution has issued a stern reminder to the public that online interactions are strictly regulated, warning that sharing or engaging with content that threatens national stability carries serious criminal consequences.
