Strong Earthquake Hits Northern Sumatra, Indonesia
A powerful earthquake rattled Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, this past Saturday, drawing attention from global monitoring agencies. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) initially reported the tremor at a magnitude of 6.4, noting that it originated at a significant depth of approximately 158 kilometers.
While reports on the exact intensity varied slightly, the UAE's National Seismic Network also captured the seismic activity, recording the event at a 6.3 magnitude at 14:54 local time. Fortunately, the depth of the quake likely helped mitigate the potential for surface-level devastation, though authorities continue to monitor the region for any lingering impact.
