Egypt Modernizes Tourism with Expansion of Digital Ticketing Systems

Thu, Aug 20, 2026(5h ago)World

Egypt is significantly upgrading its tourism infrastructure by rolling out an expansive electronic ticketing system across 112 of its most prominent museums and archaeological sites. From the iconic Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum to the historic Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is moving away from traditional, line-heavy ticket counters. By leveraging the "EgyMonuments" platform and the "Experience Egypt" mobile app, travelers can now secure their entry before they even step foot on-site, effectively shifting the beginning of their journey from a physical queue to their own smartphone.

To further streamline the entry process, the government has introduced self-service kiosks and smart gates at various locations, including Saqqara and the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. These machines, which accept bank card payments, are designed to reduce congestion and save visitors the trouble of traveling to distant ticket offices. While these digital advancements do not eliminate the crowds during peak tourist seasons or remove standard security protocols, they offer a much-needed layer of convenience. Ultimately, this transformation highlights a fascinating contrast: while the treasures themselves remain thousands of years old, the way visitors engage with them is becoming faster, smarter, and decidedly more modern.
