India Denies Claims of Chinese Border Incursions

Thu, Aug 20, 2026(5h ago)World

The Indian government has officially dismissed allegations of a fresh Chinese intrusion along the disputed Himalayan border, following concerns raised by the opposition Congress party. Kiren Rijiju, a prominent lawmaker representing Arunachal Pradesh, explicitly countered reports suggesting that Chinese troops had breached deep into Indian territory near Taksing. He emphasized that claims of a 60-kilometer penetration are factually incorrect and clarified that no Indian villages have been captured, attributing the public alarm to misunderstandings regarding the long-standing, undemarcated nature of the border between the two nations.

While the two Asian powers have a history of territorial friction, including a lethal 2020 clash in Ladakh, both sides appear keen on maintaining stability ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit. Rijiju acknowledged that while China has bolstered its military presence along the frontier, India is simultaneously upgrading its own border infrastructure and patrolling efforts to ensure sovereignty. Both Beijing and New Delhi have signaled a desire for peace, as recent diplomatic efforts have helped gradually restore trade and travel links despite the persistent lack of a final border agreement.
