Bus Attack Near Damascus Leaves Security Personnel Injured
A bus transporting members of Syria’s Internal Security Forces was struck by an explosive device on Saturday along the Maarounah–Al-Tal road, located in the outskirts of Damascus. According to state media outlet SANA, the blast resulted in several injuries among the personnel on board. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the nature of the attack and track down the perpetrators, though specific details regarding the suspects remain limited. Images released following the incident reveal the severity of the explosion, showing the vehicle heavily damaged with shattered windows and debris strewn across the interior.
This incident marks another troubling development in a series of security breaches that have plagued the region since the ousting of former leader Bashar al-Assad in late 2024. Damascus and its surrounding suburbs have frequently become targets for such violence, including a blast in Jaramana earlier this August that left 14 people wounded. Additionally, these ongoing challenges highlight the instability currently facing the country, following a high-profile attack in July near a hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron had been staying, which resulted in one fatality and dozens of injuries.
