Two months after the catastrophic twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24, Maiquetia International Airport is finally set to resume commercial operations on September 1. Located in the heavily impacted Guaira state, the facility had been restricted exclusively to humanitarian aid flights while officials worked to repair extensive infrastructure damage. The disaster, which claimed the lives of over 6,500 people and left thousands more missing, had forced authorities to divert all air traffic to smaller regional airports across the country.

To facilitate this return to service, airport management has established a series of temporary departure and arrival terminals housed in large tents near the damaged structures. Officials emphasized that this reopening is a vital step toward restoring Venezuela’s global connectivity. While the main airport facilities remain under repair, the introduction of these provisional hubs will allow both domestic and international air travel to begin moving once again, marking a significant milestone in the region's long recovery process.
