The catastrophe, which swept away critical infrastructure including roads, bridges, and power plants, is believed to have been sparked by an earthquake that triggered a dangerous ice-rock avalanche along the Lhende Khola river. This event has left hundreds of travelers—including citizens from India, the US, Britain, and several other nations—unaccounted for, while rescue operations face immense difficulty due to blocked communications and inaccessible terrain.

Authorities remain on high alert as the threat of a secondary flood persists, with a significant blockage still lodged upstream in the Lhende Khola. While search and rescue teams from both Nepal and China, alongside support from India and South Korea, are working tirelessly, the sheer volume of flood sediment is severely hindering progress.
