Devastating Flash Floods Leave Hundreds of Foreign Tourists Missing in Nepal

Thu, Aug 27, 2026(2h ago)World

A catastrophic wave of flash floods has swept through Nepal, resulting in at least 160 confirmed deaths and leaving hundreds of international visitors unaccounted for. Nepal remains a premier destination for global adventurers drawn to its world-class climbing routes and Himalayan trails, but the sudden environmental disaster has plunged the trekking community into chaos. According to official reports from the Nepal Tourism Board, at least 341 foreign nationals are currently missing, spanning over a dozen countries including India, the UK, Australia, and Ukraine.

Emergency response teams are currently struggling to establish contact with various tour groups scattered across the affected regions, such as Rasuwa. India has the highest number of missing citizens at 142, followed by significant counts from Ukraine, Australia, and Malaysia. While international governments are working closely with local authorities to track down their citizens, the situation remains fluid and deeply concerning. Alongside the international casualties, the local tourism board has confirmed that 93 Nepalis are also missing, as rescue operations continue to face immense challenges due to the scale of the destruction.
