Heroic Principal Saves Over 1,600 Students During Catastrophic Nepal Flood

Sun, Aug 30, 2026(1h ago)World

When a massive flash flood tore through Nepal’s Trishuli valley, the quick thinking of Rajendra Dadabi, principal of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School, ensured the survival of 1,643 students. After receiving an urgent warning from a contact upstream that a village had been destroyed by rising waters, Dadabi immediately sounded the alarm to evacuate his campus. Recognizing that hundreds more children were en route via school buses, he frantically contacted drivers to reroute them. In one heart-stopping moment, he personally signaled a bus crossing a bridge to turn back just seconds before the structure was completely washed away.

The students were led to safety on higher ground, where they took shelter beneath a tree as the floodwaters obliterated their school. While all 1,643 children survived the disaster, the community suffered a heartbreaking loss when a teacher and a janitor perished after returning to areas near the river. The tragedy was triggered by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, which sent a lethal torrent of mud and debris through the region. Despite being hailed as a hero for his life-saving decisions, Dadabi remains humble, insisting that he simply did what was necessary to protect his students during the deadly catastrophe.
