Iran Dismisses Trump’s AI-Generated Kharg Island Attack Post as Absurd

Mon, Aug 31, 2026(1h ago)World

Iranian officials have publicly ridiculed a recent social media post by Donald Trump, in which the former president shared an AI-generated video claiming that Iran’s critical Kharg Island oil hub had been "blown to smithereens." Hamid Bovard, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed the claim as entirely laughable, confirming that operations at the facility remain steady and undisturbed. Independent analysis corroborated that the footage circulated by Trump was synthetic, and there has been no evidence to suggest any such strike actually occurred.

The incident highlights the volatile atmosphere in the region as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate. While the U.S. recently conducted strikes against Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island, citing an "imminent threat" to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has retaliated with strikes on U.S. bases in Jordan and claims of downing a U.S. drone. Despite the intensifying rhetoric and the threat of broader conflict, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian maintains that his nation is not seeking war, though he cautioned that Iran remains prepared to respond decisively to any further acts of aggression.
